I was having a funny little discussion with a couple of people about where my profile picture came from. Someone had noticed in one of my profiles that a possible shoulder could be seen in mine, and they were speculating as to who was REALLY beside me, making me smile so.
In fact, there IS a story behind my picture (isn’t there a story behind ALL pictures?) So, I thought it might be fun to let you in on my little story, and see if anyone else would like to share theirs.
It’s true, there is a person standing beside me, and yes, that person made me smile. 🙂 Here is the full pic, can anyone guess who this is before I reveal it?
Some of you may, or may not know that I’m a huge Star Trek fan. I love everything about Star Trek. From the original series, all the way through Enterprise, including all the movies. Of all the Star Trek franchises, my favorite ones are Deep Space Nine and Enterprise. (I can’t pick between the two – you can’t make me!) And just as a side note – don’t you dare say Enterprise sucks, unless you’ve watched at least one full season. Though I highly recommend you keep going. If you are a true science fiction fan, the last 2 seasons of Enterprise are some of the best TV you will ever watch.
Now, in the entire Star Trek Continuum, my second favorite character of all time is Weyoun, from Deep Space Nine. And yes, the man in the photo with me is Jeffrey Combs, who played Weyoun. I attended my first Star Trek convention last fall in San Francisco, and got to meet him. He was super sweet, and called me “dear” (blush) 😉
It’s also important to note that he played a total of 7 characters from three Star Trek shows, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. Two of my other favorite characters were played by him: Brunt from DS9, and Commander Shran from Enterprise. Here is a montage of his characters ~ signed by Mr. Combs himself!
If anyone is interested, I will do a little PR and spread the love of Mr. Combs.
His official website is here. And it includes a link for contacting him directly. I sent him an email message once, and he actually responded with a very nice, personal message: Jeffrey Combs Website
His new movie, Would You Rather, is being released soon. Here is the official trailer:
When I told Mr. Combs that Weyoun was my second favorite character, he asked me who was #1 and I felt obliged to be honest. He pointed out that it was Garak who ultimately killed Weyoun… oh dear…
How about you? Do any of you have an interesting story behind your profile picture? Please share in the comments! 🙂
